Building Description
The Bay Area Community Land Trust (BACLT) and McGee Avenue Baptist Church are delighted to announce the availability of 1 apartments at 1638 Stuart Street in Berkeley for households earning less than 80% of Area Median Income. (see maximum household income limits below).
Rent $1,750. Security Deposit equal to one month’s rent. Applicants must earn a minimum monthly income of at least 2x the monthly rent and utility cost income. Maximum Income Limit: 1 Person: $89,520. 2 People: $102,320. 3 People: $115,120. Wheelchair Accessible.
Stuart Street Co-op Formation
Join existing resident co-stewards at 1638 Stuart St to establish a long-developing Affordable Housing Co-op in Berkeley. BACLT will provide educational sessions throughout the two-year Co-op formation process as the 8 resident households learn how to become Co-op owners and managers.
APPLICATION PROCESS:
1. Attend an Online Orientation Session (Required): All interested applicants must attend a 1-hour Virtual Orientation Session before they can receive an application. 2. Attend an Open House (Optional): 1638 Stuart Street, Berkeley, CA 94703 on Tuesday, April 21, 2026 from 5:30 PM – 7:30 PM.

- Please note: no leases will be signed sight unseen
3. Applications must be submitted by Friday, April 24, 2026

Accessibility Information: The property was built in 1912, and a full renovation completed in 2022. There is one wheelchair accessible, ADA unit onsite (occupied). The available unit is on the second floor without wheelchair accessibility. However, reasonable accommodation and modification requests are welcome for review.
