HIV/AIDS and other physical disabilities with head of household being at least 18 years of age. Annual Income required must be $31,250 or below for one person. Priority is given to those who have extremely low income as defined by HUD (currently $18,750 or less for 1 person), a diagnosis of disabling HIV or AIDS, and who meet one of the following criteria: currently homeless or living in substandard housing, currently paying more than 50% of income for rent and utilities, or in danger of being involuntarily displaced from current housing. Landlord, personal, professional and criminal references are required. All units include stove, refrigerator, carpeting, and emergency pull cords. Units are adapted for all persons w/handicap. Cook own meals. Some social, psychological and physical services available, activities, events, Coin operated laundry onsite. Closed parking lot available. All units wheelchair accessible. Resident Manager, on call 7 p.m. to 7 am.
Two bedroom units are for people with live-in caretaker.
Tenant Association meeting with dinner provided the last Thursday of the month. Monthly birthday parties. Massage therapy, Alcohol and drug rehab, clinical psych, acupuncture. East Bay Community Recovery Project provides services onsite. Help build links to services– case management done through the county. Dying at home is encouraged– will work with VNA and Pathways. Diverse community, not all with HIV. Prefer that homeless clients go through a transition program first– that seems to work better.
Partners and spouses okay.
Extensive application process– copy on file. Its very helpful (almost necessary) to have a case manager to go do the application. Initial application is done, then when a vacancy seems to be coming up, the person must have documentation of income, etc. current to within 90 days.
