Housing Choice Voucher Wait list opens

888-6506-1220 Application Assistance Line starting Sept. 10th.

The online application for the housing wait lists will open on Friday, September 10th at 8:30am and will remain open thru Monday, September 20th at 12:00 pm.

  • It is on-line applications ONLY.  No paper applications.
  • Once they get all applications they are going to take just 1,500 names by doing a random lottery.
  • Within a few months of the application they will let the applicants know by email if they have been chosen or not.

Once the housing wait list opens on September 10th, there will be phone assistance line available in English, Spanish, Chinese, Tagalog, and Filipino. The number is 888-506-1220 but again it won’t be available until September 10th. There will be three application centers in Alameda during the housing wait list opening from Sept 10th thru Sept 20th . They will provide computers and assistance in filling out on-line applications.

AHA encourages all to apply for the housing wait lists but the applicant household must meet some eligibility criteria. One eligibility criteria is determined based on the total annual gross income and family size. The family’s income may not exceed 50% of the median income which is based on the family size.

Housing Choice Voucher participant are free to choose any housing that meets the requirements of the program and is not limited to units located in subsidized housing projects.

Lease Term:  Negotiable, but 5 years minimum is preferable.
Affordability requirements: Individuals renting a single room occupancy cannot exceed 30% of the Area Median Income, (AMI)*, which is currently $28,800 per year
All 8 units share a common kitchen, common spaces and bathrooms. The property was leased through a master lease, where the lessee was responsible for all utilities and regular maintenance. NCLT has been responsible for capital improvements, insurance, debt service and property taxes.
Group or program scenarios:
NCLT requires that the new organization provide oversight, if necessary, such as a resident manager or case
management services, and either contract with a property management firm, or manage the property itself (i.e.
perform regular maintenance and emergency repairs, keep the utilities paid and connected, collect rents, fill
vacancies as they occur, follow through Shelter Plus Care and Berkeley Housing Authority
